Customized Facebook Page

Unlike a personal Facebook profile, fan pages allow you some flexibility in customizing your page. On your page you have the options of having custom tabs, boxes, and landing pages. Each of these options has its own set of benefits.

Customized Landing Page
A "landing page" is the first page that newcomers see when they visit your Facebook page. Think of a landing page like the cover of a magazine. When you're standing in at the checkout line at the grocery store, the cover of the magazine lets you know whether the magazine is worth picking up and reading. This page is very important because it is the first impression that you have on potential fans. This page should strengthen your professional and trustworthy image as well as provide reason for visitors to become a fan. Once a fan, visitors will no longer land on this targeted landing page, but will go directly to your wall. You can see an example of a landing page by visiting the Siouxland Dental Health page. The landing page is highlighted in red:

Customized Tabs

There is little room on Facebook pages to add much extra information in a professional looking way. Customized Tabs are the solution to this problem. They allow you to add a whole page of information, pictures, links, or anything else you want in a format that looks completely integrated. You can view the Babylon Dental Care page to see how they used a customized tab to add an entire "Our Story" page to their Facebook page. The customized tab is highlighted in red:

Customized Box
Boxes are found on the left side of any Facebook page and receive quite a bit of visibility because it is right next to the wall. There are many pre-set items that may go in these boxes such as Fans, Photo Albums, Videos, ect. However, if you want to add a text box, links, or a single image, there are no good pre-set options. Customized boxes address the problem of constricted space for information. You can put anything you like (that is relatively small) in a customized box, and it will be sure to get many views. You can view a small example of a customized box by viewing the Siouxland Dental Health page. The customized box is highlighted in red:

Customized Facebook pages add another level of professionalism and trustworthiness that are crucial to any social media campaign. If you would like any of these elements added to your Facebook fan page, you can email me at samanthakmeis@gmail.com in order to discuss your options.

Principles of Batching Applied to Social Media

Have you been running short on time or do you foresee yourself being very busy in the upcoming weeks? NOW is the time for batching any repetitive tasks. Face it, you have a busy lifestyle that is full of distractions. Batching allows you to block out time to focus on a single task, resulting in much greater productivity and efficiency.

Batching Tweets

Think of all the time you spend before you start tweeting: you sit down at your computer, get settled in, check the news, find something to tweet about, log on to twitter, and finally write your tweet for the day. What if you could batch your tweets? What if you could sit down, focus on writing tweets, and have not be required to think of new Tweets for the next ten days? Well now you can. With a website called socialoomph.com you can “plan, set, and forget.” Watch my YouTube tutorial Batching Tweets with Socialoomph.com to see how it’s done.

Batching Videos

Making videos is another great social media practice to apply batching. Making videos seems like a daunting task; however, with batching, it is made extremely manageable. Pick a morning to focus on making videos and have a list of videos you would like to film. Sit in front of the camera and describe 10 different procedures or other important aspects of your practice. Then upload each video to your computer. Now in a short time, you have 10 videos available to post to your Facebook or YouTube whenever you like.

Don’t Rely on Batching

Batching is a very good way to up your productivity, however, it is not to be your only way of posting. Social networking is about interacting with your community and providing up to the date information and videos, so make sure to keep the current events and community conversation fresh.

Beginnings of a New Blog!

After more than a year of creating, maintaing, and consulting about social media marketing from the travel industry to the dental industry, I finally decided to practice what I preach and create my own blog. TADA here it is.

Social media can have many purposes: to promote a business, to connect people, to plan events, ect. The purpose of my efforts, though, is to create a channel where my clients (or anyone else who stumbles upon this blog) can learn social media tips, news, and access tutorials, so they can improve their own social networking efforts.

It has been proven time and time again that social media marketing is an extremely effective outreach strategy. Sometimes the latest, hottest thing really is useful, so take what you learn, interact with your community, and have fun with it!
